Haunted Shrewsbury DAY TWENTY SEVEN – Old Gaol, Castle Court

Although now apartments the owd gaol was here frum 1705 until the new prison on Howard Street was finished in 1793. A chapel for the Primitive Methodists was erected here in 1826 and was rebuilt in 1863.

At one time this building was being used for offices, and during this time strange poltergeist phenomena were recorded. Items of office stationery were far frum stationary as they would move about totally unaided, even a heavy paper punch. One story tells us that a roll of sticky backed plastic ‘ould float across the room at waist height as if it was being carried by an invisible person.

Pop in tomorrow if you can when we look at the building behind us. oh! and dunna have nightmares.
