For the last fifty years this was a well-known chocolatiers shop and for the 40 years afore that it was Pelican Snelson’s tobacconist’s. The building was built in the 1500s and the front bay section added in the 17th century. Later, two balconies were added but these were removed during extensive renovations by CBS Ltd about 10 years ago.
When it was a chocolate shop an amiable visitor known as “Friendly Fred” ‘ould make regular appearances and often he’d mischievously place chocolates on the floor.
